Alaska Halibut Fishing Trips - Homer, Ninilchik, Deep Creek, Seward, Alaska

Halibut and Other Ocean Fishing

Homer, Anchor Point, Deep Creek, Ninilchik, Seward.

So, you have heard about Halibut fishing in Alaska have you!  It doesn't get any better.  Alaska Fishing Charters will provide you with the best halibut fishing you will ever have. We have experienced captains fishing for "barn-door" halibut in Alaskas Kenai Peninsula: Homer, Anchor Point, Deep Creek/Ninilchik, Seward.

Most of our halibut and other Ocean fishing charters go out of Homer, Alaska.  Homer, Alaska provides excellent fishing for halibut, saltwater King salmon, Ling Cod, saltwater silver salmon, black bass, etc..  After all, Homer is known as the "Halibut Capital of the World" for a reason.  Fish of over 200 pounds are sometimes caught but it is best to release those barn doors.  Have you ever tried to need a barn door?  The best halibut to eat are much smaller than that.  Although we try to catch our guests nice 40 to 50 lb. variety, sometimes we do not succeed.  The average Cook Inlet halibut is closer to 20 pounds.  Most halibut fishing is bottom fishing using baited hooks and 2 to 3 pounds of lead.

To complement the halibut, we often recommend a combo that would include fishing for a species of salmon (silver, pink, King) or rockfish (Steves personal favorite to eat).  In the case of ocean fishing for salmon, ordinarily we do troll but sometimes we do jig.

Alternatively, the ultimate combo is for halibut, rockfish and lingcod.  This ultimate combo is only available beginning July 1.  It is also very weather sensitive.  We have to go further to get the lingcod in which case the weather more often prevents us from getting there.  Lingcod are Steves personal favorite to catch but now he prefers only to catch and release them.  It is a lot of work to catch a lingcod, jigging is mandatory.  But look out when you hook one of these monsters, they are a blast to reel in.

In addition to the awesome fishing, the scenery in Homer is incomparable.  What a spectacular backdrop to enjoy while reeling in a boatload of great tasting halibut.
